Attention to the tiger mosquito (Aedes albopictus) is primarily due to the significant nuisance it can cause to citizens, with its repeated daytime bites in urban areas. However, this mosquito species also raises concerns because of its potential ability to transmit exotic viruses, should these be imported through our travels. The Canton of Ticino has been active in this regard for several years, and other cantons where the tiger mosquito has become established are now adopting similar measures. At the same time, the Confederation is developing guidelines that will be made available to all cantons. Here is an example of what the Canton of Geneva has planned for 2025.
