The tiger mosquito has arrived in Bern

Bern, June 22, 2021 The tiger mosquito is spreading in Switzerland.

Localized presences have also been detected in Bern. The Swiss Tropical and Public Health Institute is investigating the situation in Bern. The population is urged to avoid small open water spots to prevent rapid spread.

In the Obstberg district of Bern, mosquitoes were caught in September of the last two years and were identified by the Swiss Tropical and Public Health Institute (Swiss TPH) as tiger mosquitoes. The canton of Bern and the Federal Office for the Environment (FOEN) have therefore commissioned the Swiss TPH to carry out further investigations to better assess the situation.
